No Nigeria Police Personnel Was Involved In Any Allegation Of Sex Abuse - Force PRO

  • The Force sees the publication as mischievous and deliberate attempt to tarnish the good image and hard-earned excellent records and performance of thousands of Police personnel both retired and serving, who have served in various UN Missions across the World meritoriously without blemish.

The Nigeria Police Force said her attention has been drawn to a Punch Newspaper online publication dated 2nd  October, 2018 captioned “UN Bars Nigerian Peacekeeper for sexually Exploiting Woman”, purporting that the UN has barred a Nigeria Police Peace Keeper for sexually exploiting a woman.

In a press release by the Force Public Relations Officer,  Ag DCP Jimoh Moshood,  he said that the according to the publication, the Policeman was deployed to Democratic Republic of Congo in support of the UN Mission (MONUSCO) from where he was reassigned to the UN Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) allegedly as a result of the incident.

The Police Spokesperson categorically repudiate the story in its entirety as untrue, mischievous, unfounded and misinformation. The Nigeria Police Force is a disciplined organization that despises such misconduct and will not condone any abuse or exploitation of women or other vulnerable persons by its personnel on peace keeping operations anywhere in the world.

"The Nigeria Police Force has been participating in global peace keeping and support operations since 1960 and has won for the Force and our great Nation, Nigeria, numerous accolades, medals and commendations for professionalism, discipline, excellent conduct and dedication to duty while in the missions.

"It will interest Nigerians and the general public that the Force was ranked recently as the best in performance from Africa in the UN Peace Keeping operations worldwide. As a Policy, the Nigeria Police Force does not deploy or reassign its personnel on another peace support operation until at least five (5) years after the completion of the previous tour of duty (Foreign Mission).

"It is incumbent on the Force to set the record straight and educate the writer that the Nigerian Peacekeeper bars by the UN for sexually exploiting a woman was not a Policeman and not on the Nigeria Police Contingent to Democratic Republic of Congo as alleged but personnel of other separate security agency on independent contingent of that specific agency, this can be verified from the UN records.

"The above bring to the fore the imperative of Journalist /Media men to always confirm properly and get their facts examined before going to the press.

DCP Jimoh Moshood further reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force sees the publication as very mischievous and deliberate attempt to tarnish the good image and hard-earned excellent records and performance of thousands of Police personnel both retired and those still in service, who have served in various UN Missions across the World meritoriously without blemish.

"Consequently, the Nigeria Police Force in defence of its integrity, honour and the respectable position the Force occupies in the United Nations Peace Keeping Operations hereby wishes to call on the publisher of the Punch Newspaper to investigate the story and publish a retraction and an unreserved apology to the Force for this deliberate attempt to malign the excellent reputation of the Nigeria Police Peacekeeper, which is capable of damping the morale of Nigeria Police contingents in Peace Keeping operations across the world, and the image of the Nigeria Police Force in general.

"The Force will not hesitate to take a prompt and appropriate legal action if these unfounded and mischievous allegations are not redressed immediately, the statement concluded.
