Officials of the Federal Capital Territory
Administration, FCTA, have embarked on a community-by-community search of
active cases of Coronavirus across the capital city.
Recall that Lagos and the FCT have recorded the
highest number of Coronavirus infection incidences in the country. So far, while
Lagos has 189 cases, the FCT recorded 58 cases.
The total cases in the country as at 09:50 pm, April
13, there are 343 confirmed cases. 91 have been discharged with 10 deaths.
The Director, FCT Public Health Department, Dr.
Josephine Okechukwu, in a statement on Tuesday, stated that the exercise, which
kicked off on Monday at Mpape community, was aimed at sensitizating and taking
samples of people with a history of Coronavirus symptoms.
According to her, samples would be collected from
people with symptoms such as fever, catarrh, chest pain and difficulty in
breathing.
The director noted that the exercise is expected to
commence in Gishiri, Utako and Mabushi on Tuesday, up until Thursday, adding
that exercise was expected to cover communities within the AMAC area.
“This is to detect everyone with COVID-19 and get
them treated promptly to break the chain of transmission in the FCT,” Mrs
Okechukwu added.
The FCTA, therefore, advised residents with such
symptoms to come forward for testing.
