Minister of Communications and Digital Economy Launches the Tokenization Policy
in the Diaspora
The Honorable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali
Ibrahim Pantami has officially opened the 3rd National Identification Number (NIN)
Diaspora Enrolment center in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to a press release signed by NIMC Head of Corporate Communications, Kayode
Adegoke, he said that Professor Pantami was accompanied at the event by the
National Identity Management Commission Director-General/CEO, Engr. Aliyu A.
Aziz reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to ensure that all
Nigerians have the foundational identity, most especially Nigerians in the
diaspora. He emphasized the need for all Nigerians living and working in the
UAE to enroll and be issued the NIN.
The newly opened
center managed by NIMC-Licensed Diaspora Enrollment partner, Knowledge Square
and Plectrum Limited brings the total number of centers opened in thirty-eight (38)
countries to One Hundred and fifty-two (152). The Dubai center is located on the 19th floor, Conrad tower, Sheik Zayed road, trade center1, Dubai, UAE.
Meanwhile, Professor Pantami uses the occasion to showcase and educate
Nigerians in the diaspora on the recently launched FG’s NIN Tokenization policy
which was unveiled on 16th September 2021 by President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR,
as part of his administration’s policy of ensuring the protection of data of
all NIN holders, especially for verification to access all government services.
It should be recalled that the FGN had earlier announced the 31st March 2022
as the deadline for the adaptation of the Tokenization NIN Verification policy
by both the public and private sectors. NIMC shall cut over all verification
transactions to the NIN Tokenization service with effect from 31st March 2022.
