Chief
Edwin Clark has rebuked the former Governor of Nasarawa State, Senator
Abdullahi Adamu over the statement he made on Silverbird Television claiming
that Chief Edwin Clark's and other leaders of the Niger Delta had done nothing
on the crisis in the Niger Delta.
In
a press release signed by Chief Edwin Clark’s Legal Adviser, Barrister Oludotun
Sowemimo, he said that Chief Clark is not surprise at the statement from
Senator Abdullahi Adamu since he is one of the Senators using the Senate to
stop the EFCC from probing his corrupt activities as Governor of Nasarawa State
and Nigerians known that Clark has been an advocate of anti-corruption in
Nigeria irrespective of political affiliation.
Below is the full
text of the press release:
Our attention has been drawn to an
interview conducted on Silverbird Television between the hours of 7pm to 8pm on
the 9th of June, 2016 by the former Governor of Nasarawa State,
Senator Abdullahi Adamu; where he made unpleasant and unremarkable statement
against the person of Chief Edwin Clark who is currently in London undergoing medical
Checkup.
In the said interview, Senator
Abdullahi Adamu in trying to disparage the credibility of Chief Edwin Clark's and
other leaders of the Niger Delta called them names and gave an insinuation that
Chief Edwin Clark had done nothing on the crisis in the Niger Delta. This is a
blatant lie to further discredit the intelligence of enlightened Nigerians. It is on record that Chief Edwin Clark took
the risks in entering the jungle dens, creeks and high seas in the very tense
days of the President Olusegun Obasanjo and the late Alhaji Umaru Musa Yar’Adua
administration to get the militants to lay down their arms. It paid off and the
country benefitted from the outcome, the Amnesty Programme, now being casually
treated with grave potential consequences.
It will be recalled on several
occasions that Chief Edwin Clark and other leaders of the Niger Delta in
various meeting held in Gbaramatu Kingdom, Warri, Port Harcourt and Abuja; had
called on people like Chief Government Ekpemupolo alias Tompolo; Chief Tom
Ateke; Asari Dokubo; Victor Ben Ebikabowei alias Boyloaf; Farah Dagogo, Africa,
Young Shall Grow, Ogunbor, Ajara Roger Mackiver; Gen. Pastor Ben, Shoot at
Sight; Richard; Bostarise and all other ex-Militants and youths who
wholeheartedly accepted the Amnesty and voluntarily surrendered arms and
ammunitions to go into the creeks and meet with those threatening the peace and
security of the Niger Delta with a view to bringing about peaceful resolution
of whatever grievance they may have.
It is on record in the Prints, Electronics
and Online media that Chief Edwin Clark on May 17, 2016 had strongly called and
appealed on the Niger Delta Avengers and any other groups of like mind, to desist,
forthwith, from their activities and embrace dialogue as the best means of
having their grievances assuaged.
It is also on record that Chief
Edwin Clark has fought against corruption and has called on President Buhari to
fight corruption to the end irrespective of political affiliation, so he is not
surprise at the statement from Senator Abdullahi Adamu since he is one of the
Senators using the Senate to stop the EFCC from probing his corrupt activities
as Governor of Nasarawa State.
Chief Clark once again is using
this medium to call on the Niger Delta Avengers and other groups to stop all
activities inimical to pipeline and oil facilities in the Niger Delta and
embrace the three week cease fire offered by this administration to embrace
dialogue.
