The
Director General of Media and Publicity to the Governor of Kogi State, Mr.
Kingsley Fanwo has reiterated the fidelity of the Governor to develop
mechanisms against corrupt practices in the State, saying the Governor will not
spare any public official who is found culpable of graft. Addressing newsmen at
Ayegunle Gbedde in Ijumu Local Government Area, the Director General said the
policy thrust of the present administration is to improve on the welfare of the
people through infrastructural development and human capacity development.
He said
the Governor has directed that foreign trips by government officials should be
scaled down in line with his determination to drastically reduce the cost of
governance.
His
words: “I am aware many people from Ayegunle Gbedde were part of this year’s
pilgrimage to the Holy Land of Mecca. Government was aware of all you went
through. As a responsible leader, the Governor immediately swung into action by
setting up a probe panel to unravel why Kogi pilgrims were subjected to such
dehumanizing conditions despite the perfect arrangements by the State
Government to make pilgrims comfortable.
“The
probe reports indicted the Chairman of the Pilgrims Commission. To underscore
his zero-tolerance to corruption and maladministration, the Governor has
directed the Secretary to the Kogi State Government to immediately suspend the
Chairman of the Commission. Also, the Chairman has been handed over to the
operatives of the Directorate of State Security Service for further
investigations and possible prosecution if enough grounds are found for that.
“The
Governor is the servant of the people of Kogi State and he expects every
appointee of government to remain incorrigibly committed to service delivery”.
Fanwo said the present administration in the State is poised to ensure even
development across Kogi State, assuring that the Governor has been able to
defeat the ghost of ethnic division and acrimony.
“For the
first time, we now have a Governor who is detribalized. For a long time, the
political class used ethnicism to set us against one another to achieve
parochial political goals. The determination of the Governor to fix some roads
and the power challenge in Abejukolo before the end of the year is an eye
opener that the politics of ethnicity is a mere creation of some political
class to swindle the populace.
“Abejukolo
in Omala Local Government Area of the State produced a Governor who governed
the State for nine years in an era of boom. Yet, he didn’t consider it necessary
to fix their bad roads. He didn’t consider it good to give them power supply.
Today, Abejukolo has gone nine straight years without power supply.
“The good
thing here is the prompt action by Governor Yahaya Bello to direct the
Commissioner for Works to ensure the roads are fixed before the end of the
year. He also pledged to return power to the community as soon as possible.
What their son couldn’t do in nine years, the Governor is set to achieve it
within a year into his administration.
“What the
State needs is what it has gotten: a visionary, detribalized and focused
leader, whose only language is development and empowerment. Governor Yahaya
Bello is changing the socio-political cum psychological paradigm of Kogi
State”.
The
Director General assured the people that the Screening Exercise is fast winding
up, urging the people to remain steadfast in their support for the present
administration.
He also
urged communities in the State to cooperate with investors and contractors who
in his words, “are in the State to help the trend of development in line with
the New Direction Agenda of the present administration”.
