The Nasarawa Peoples’ Democratic Party Integrity
Group (PDPIG) has called for fair hearing as the governorship candidate of the
PDP in Nasarawa State, David Ombugadu challenged the result of the
March 9 Governorship election in the State at the tribunal.
The group made this known on Monday, June 17th in
Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area of the State as the Nasarawa Governorship Election Tribunal starts sitting on Tuesday, 18th June, 2019. .
The group through its spokesman, Aliyu Yahaya
commended Ombugadu for rejecting the outcome of the election as announced by
the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
"We commend Ombugadu for seeking legal redress
in the Tribunal in order to reclaim the mandate given to him by the people of
Nasarawa State, Yahaya said.
According to him, “We have total confidence in the
judiciary and we believe Ombugadu will reclaim his stolen mandate at the end of
the day. The judiciary will do justice to the outcome of the election and the
people’s mandate that was stolen will be recovered at the end of the day."
The group also called on the party’s supporters to
remain calm, saying that they are confident and believed that the tribunal
would restore the mandate given to Ombugadu by the people of the State.
The group commended the party’s supporters for their
peaceful conduct during and after the elections in the State.
They also lauded the people of the State for voting
for Ombugadu and other candidates of the party during the Presidential,
National Assembly, Governorship and State House of Assembly elections.
It will be recalled that Abdullahi Bala, returning
officer for the election announced Sule as governor-elect on Monday, March 11
in Lafia after the collation of results from the 13 local government areas of
the state.
Bala said the APC candidate polled a total of
327,229 votes to defeat other opponents in the election.
According to him, David Ombugadu of the Peoples
Democratic Party scored 184,281 votes, while Labaran Maku of the All
Progressives Grand Alliance polled a total of 132,784 votes at the election.
