The United Young Professionals has called on the
general public to ignore the publications in an online media, Sahara
Reporters titled, "Exclusive:
Police Spokesman Jimoh Moshood, IGP's PA Set To Lose Their Illegally-Obtained
Ranks"
In a press release signed by the National
Coordinator of the United Young Professionals, Adewole Kehinde, he said that to
set the record straight, the promotion of ACP Jimoh Moshood, FPRO to Ag. DCP
became necessary because of the existing vacancy in the Force Public Relations
Department for the rank of Commissioner of Police.
“Furthermore, his promotion will assist to bring him
at par in rank to the National Public Relations Officers of the under listed
organisation that have equivalent of Commissioner of Police and Deputy
Commissioner of Police as their Public Relations Officers
- The Nigerian Army has Brigadier General as Director Public Relations;
- The Nigeria Navy – has Commodore as Director of Naval Information;
- The Nigeria Air Force – has Air Vice Marshal as its Director of Public Relations;
- The Nigerian Customs Service – has Deputy Comptroller as its Public Relations Officer
- The Nigerian Immigration Service – has Deputy Comptroller as its Public Relations Officer;
- The Nigerian Prison service – has Deputy Comptroller as its Spokesperson.
- Federal Road Safety Corps – has Corps Commander as its Spokesperson
- The Civil Defence has a Deputy Commandant as their Public Relations Officer
“From the above, Nigerians will agree that the
Police Spokesperson in the person of Ag DCP Jimoh Moshood deserves to be
promoted as Commissioner of Police.
"The publications claims that the General Promotion Guidelines spelt out for the Police Service Commission, it takes a minimum of three years for an officer between the ranks of ASP to ACP to be considered for another promotion, during which time he/she must have attended the relevant promotion course and passed the prescribed examination.
It may interest the Police Service Commission and the general public to note that Jimoh Moshood spent 18 years from ASP to ACP. He spent 8 years on Superintendent (SP) rank while the guidelines stipulated 3 years for a promotion to take place, so we should be talking of further promotion for him instead of demotion, if justice is to be done, Adewole reiterated.
“We therefore implore journalists, especially the
online media; to do a thorough job before going to the press to avoid
defamation of character and loss of confidence from the populace, the statement
concluded.
