Idris said the traditional rulers could do that by appealing to their well to do subjects with legitimate sources of income to support the police in fighting crime  in the country.

He, however, appealed to them to refrain from giving Chieftaincy titles to people without legitimate sources of income as that would amount to glorifying criminals.

The top cop advised the Royal fathers not to condone criminality in their domain by exposing all persons with dubious intentions.

Idris, who chronicled the various efforts of the police in having a synergy with the traditional institution in the country, said the efforts had started paying off with more arrests and prosecution of criminals across the country.

He said during such engagements with the police, the traditional rulers were exposed to new Technics in crime detection and also received feedback from the traditional rulers.

Idris said the traditional rulers were at a vintage position to assist the police in crime prevention owing to its respect and authority in the land.

He said they knew their terrain and could lead officers to apprehend criminals that sought refuge in their domain.
