FMC Bida Board Chair Lauds FG For Massive Infrastructural Devt.


The Chairman, Board of Management, Federal Medical Centre, Bida,  Is'haq Usman, has applauded the Federal Government,  for expending huge amount of money in the infrastructural development of Federal Medical Centre, Bida, Niger state.

He stated this when he led members of the Board on a working visit to the Centre in Bida.

Usman stated that, the  visit was sequel to a decision taken during the board's virtual meeting, in August, 2020.


The Chairman expressed delight that, both the completed and ongoing projects, at both the permanent and temporary sites had greatly changed the landscape of the hospital.

Usman also expressed satisfaction with the levels of work at the hospital's permanent site .

According to him,the projects will bolster the operational capabilities of the hospital, with a view to provide efficient and affordable healthcare services to the people of the state .

The high point of the visit was the inspection of on-going capital projects at the hospital's permanent site, along KM4, Sachii-Badeggi road, Bida.


The various construction works are being executed under the 2019/2020 capital appropriation, at the cost of over N1.4 billion.

At a meeting with the Unions, Usman enjoined the Management and staff  of the hospital to put in their best, to justify Government's commitment to the health sector for the improved healthcare delivery to Nigerians. 

He charged the Management to ensure that, the contractors delivered the projects according to specifications and according to global standatds.

This is also to ensure that, there is value for money spent by the Federal Government.

On the raging global Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19), the Chairman stressed the need for the staff to observe the subsisting protocols in their operations.

Usman also promised that, efforts will be intensified to provide the direly needed personal protective equipment, so as to enhance their operations.

Some of the ongoing projects at the permanent site include: construction of perimeter fence and gatehouse, construction of 2 km standard asphalt road network, extension of water supply from public water source, construction of drainages, provision of boreholes and water reservoirs, and provision of electricity supply to the site. Other on going projects include: construction of accommodation for house officers and interns as well as erosion and flood control channel, among others.

Responding, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre, Bida Dr. Mohammed Aminu Usman, assured the Board that everything possible was being done to ensure that federal government's aspiration of curbing medical tourism was achieved in the hospital.

This is through the construction of world class facilities that will serve as a national centre for advanced medical care, such as cancer management, among others.

He further lauded the support of the Board of Management under Is'haq Usman,  as well as the Bida Traditional Council under the Etsu Nupe, Alhaji Yahaya Abubakar,  to the hospital.

Usman also noted that, such support was imperative as the hospital is the only tertiary referral health facility serving the healthcare needs of people in Niger state, and neighbouring communities in Kwara, Kebbi, Kogi States and FCT.
