The sudden and controversial resignation of the Accountant-General of Osun State, Mr Alaba Kolawole has been linked to the secret disbursement of a sum of 16.67 billion Naira election funds to the state by the Federal Government.
The state chapter of the PDP stated this today in a Press statement issued by the Chairman of the party, Hon Soji Adagunodo.
The party added that the development also confirmed the several concerns raised by the PDP about the manner in which the State Governor, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola has been handling the finances of the State in the last 8 years.
While berating the Federal Government for secretly funding the APC election through a selective disbursement of Paris club refund to Osun state, the PDP said it has cause to suspect that the Accountant-General was being coerced into authorising illegal payments of monies to several persons and phoney companies from the state accounts; hence his recourse to resigning from office.
" We also have it on good authority that top officials of the Ministry of Finance and the Accountant-General have raised concerns about the manner in which Governor Aregbesola was applying another sum of 13 billion Naira recently refunded to Osun state for Federal roads purportedly rehabilitated by the State.
The party wondered why the Governor was finding it difficult to offset part of the 34-month arrears of salaries and pensions of workers from the money released by the Federal Government.
The Statement therefore calls on anti-graft agencies to beam their search-light into how the over 30 billion Naira recent 'windfall' is being spent by the Aregbesola administration.
The PDP also warned top civil servants against conniving with the outgoing administration to use public funds for the forthcoming governorship election or for any other illegal purposes.
