We Want Our Government To Re-Establish The Value Of Our Education - Yoruba Youth Council National President

A PAPER PRESENTATION BY COMRADE ERIC OLUWOLE- YORUBA YOUTH COUNCIL NATIONAL PRESIDENT, AT THE YOUTH DIVERSITY CONFERENCE, HELD AT NAF CONFERENCE CENTRE AND SUITES, ABUJA, NIGERIA, ON MONDAY, MAY 23RD, 2016.

PROTOCOLS

Yoruba Youth Council, worldwide (YYC) is a national Apex umbrella body of Yoruba youth as Yoruba Nation youth wing, a social political ethnic youth base group, which emanated from the urge for our tribe as one out of major tribes in the country to contribute progressively to the development of our fatherland, showcase our heritage among young and old Nigerians and also make positive input to political discourse.  We are saddled with responsibilities of millions of Young people from Yoruba nation.

On behalf of all Yoruba Youth home and diaspora. Let me, first of all, congratulate the conveners of this historic event and also start by welcoming every participant to this important gathering of the opinion molders of our desired country. Considering the present state of the nation, I have come to terms with the organizers that this conference is long overdue. I have examine the National faultlines and its effects on our National life.

1. A Nation may refer to a community of people who share a common language, culture, ethnicity, descent, or history. In this definition, a nation has no physical borders who share a common territory and government (for example the inhabitants of a sovereign state) irrespective of their ethnics make-up.

2. A Nation is not a casual or ephemeral conglomeration, but a stable community of people " a common language is one of the characterics features of a nation. Characteristics of each generation vary by region, depending on social and economic condition and we should be cautious about sweeping generalisations, bearing in mind the fact that all population groups tend to be tarred with such views, some accurate, and some completely missing the mark.
Fellow compatriots, let me ask us whether this is the Nigeria of our dreams? Is it the Nigeria of our founding fathers? Are we still on the same tract with our pals India, Brazil, Malaysia of the 80s. Which is today economic giant of Africa? How do we arrive at the state of no destination? Who are the people responsible for our present sorry state? The answers are not far-fetch. In Nigeria, The unemployment is at its climax in the history of the Nation. A country where bad economy worsened by oil glut. A country, so overwhelmed with ethno-religious sentiment, fanatics & bigotry. And a Nation so enmeshed in institutionalized corruption by succesive government whose leadership style is full of deceit and with moral and ethical values fallen back to its origins!  From the north to south, east to west the various multi ethnic & multi-religious groups harbored one negative feeling or the other with one another which led to the multidimensional clashes we witness in our country today. From the OPC clashes,  the Niger-Delta militants to the dreaded Boko-haram upto the current Fulani-herdsmen /Farmers clashes,  all can be trace to bad leadership. We are all victims of circumstances.

We watched & hear how billion dollars were either embezzled, misappropriated or stashed in foreign account by those we entrusted our collective destinies onto there care. Now that we've been able to identify the problems, the next question is who will let the cat out of the bag And save our dear Nation from a total collapse? Compatriots this the right platform to fix the problem.

Thanks for our saviour Gen.Buhari and the APC change of development towards the Nigerian progress. I therefore charge all participants to contribute without fear in the spirit of patriotism. Finally, our position as Yoruba youth. We want our government to re-establish the value of our education.

I therefore, recommend this paper for unity dialogue, solutions in terms of understanding of our languages, culture, religious and ethnicity. This will leads us to have strong unity towards the development of our dear country NIGERIA.

Be that as it may, I urge the present federal government administration to look within and invest hugely in our youth because of high proportion of youth restiveness in the country though I have to commend the proposed palliative measures from Mr president but nevertheless their should not be limit to youth development across the board. I wish the conference a happy deliberations.

I wish you all a glorious future and I thank you for your attention.

Comrade Eric Oluwole
Yoruba Youth National President (Yoruba Youth Council- National Body)
