Legislation Underway To Enhance Nigeria Air Force Operations - Reps

Chairman, House of Representatives Committee on Air Force, Rt. Hon. Samson Okwu, has assured Nigerians that the Eight House of Representatives is posed to put in place effective  legislative measures to enhance operations of the Nigeria Air Force in the discharge of its statutory functions .

Addressing the Chief of Air Force, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, other management staff of the Force and members of the House Committee on Air Force, during an interactive session with the House Committee on Air Force in Abuja yesterday, Samson said the Committee has set targets to tackle any challenges being encountered by the Force in line with the Legislative Agenda of the Eight House of Representatives.

He stressed that the on-going fight against insurgency and the dreaded Boko Haram in some parts of the country calls for a very proactive, well-equipped and dependable Force that will give Nigerians the desired security.

"We shall leave no stone unturned to achieve a very secure and comfortable environment for our populace. 

"As a parliamentary procedure and in line with the discharge of our oversight functions, we want to be briefed on the general activities of the Nigeria Air Force. The Committee would also want to know your role in the on-going fight against insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country.

"We will sustain this form of interaction and information received will widen member's horizon on the statutory functions of the Force and also assist the Committee in recommending measures aimed at enhancing operations of the Force," Samson declared.

He commended the Nigerian Air Force and other security agencies for the successes recorded by the present administration in curbing the menace of insurgencies across board, saying transparency in the affairs of the Force remain sacrosanct. 

Earlier, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar who led other management staff of the Force to the interactive session pledged that the Force will continue to have a cordial working relationship with the committee for the good of Nigerians.

Abubakar assured that Nigeria Air Force was capable of discharging their constitutional roles effectively adding that efforts by the Air Force to commence manufacturing of Air craft spares in Nigeria have reached advanced stage.

He continued that the Force is partnering 15 Nigerian Universities to assist in the maintenance of Air Crafts but quick to outlined the major constraints encountered by the Force which include, inadequate and obsolete aircrafts, inadequate funding, lack of manpower, lack of accommodation.

Abubakar further called for the passage of the Bill for an Act to Establish the Air Force Training School in Kaduna to enhance its proficiency.
