Tor Tiv Was Epitome of Peace, Unity - Atiku

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar says the late Tor Tiv, HRH Dr Alfred Akawe Torkula was an epitome of peace and unity.

The former Vice President pays tribute to the Tor Tiv over the weekend while condoling with the royal family, the Tiv nation and the people and government of Benue State over the demise of the their illustrious monarch.

The former Vice President, who is also the Zegemule u Tiv of Tivland spoke through the Managing Director/CEO of Gotel Communications, John Chiahemen during a condolence visit by leaders of the Tiv Cultural Association Yola and Management of Gotel Communications following the death of the Tor Tiv.

Mr Fred Sanda, Gotel's Manager for Community Outreach, says that as holder of one of the highest traditional titles in Tivland, the Zegemule u Tiv, Atiku was as much in mourning as Tiv people all over the world by the passing of their monarch.

"It is in view of your exalted status among the Tiv and people of Benue in general that we felt we should pay you this condolence visit," Sanda says.

The President of the Tiv Cultural Association of Yola, Mr Terkimbi Tyona, offered his condolences on behalf of his association.

"The title you hold places you in the same category as other members of the Tiv Traditional Council," Mr Tyona says. "In this regard we know that you will play your role in ensuring a peaceful transition when a new replacement steps into the shoes of the late traditional father."


He says the office of the Tor Tiv was very important for peace and harmony not just in Benue State, but in neighbouring states of Nasarawa and Taraba where the Tiv formed a significant part of the population.
