Security, Our Number One Job, Says Engineer Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has identified security as the topmost priority of his administration.

Engineer Sule made this known while playing host to a delegation led by the National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Chris Isiguzo, at the Government House, on Friday.

According to the Governor, security is the number one job of his administration, as without security, all the good things the government is working hard to put in place to better both state and people, may not come to fruition.

Engineer Sule said that informed the decision of his administration to focus on security, stressing that no matter the cost of security, it’s not too expensive for the state to bear.

The Governor stated further that his administration believes in the security of lives of the people and their property.

“For us, security is job number one. Because without security, all what we have been looking for  Nasarawa State, will not actually come and be of any benefit to any one of our people,” Engineer Sule stated.

Responding on the request for a portion of land to build houses for journalists in the state, the Governor promised to partner with the NUJ with a view to meeting their accommodation challenges.

Engineer Sule directed officials of the NUJ to liaise with the State Commissioner for Information, Hon. Dogo Shammah, with a view to coming up with a plan by the state Ministry of Lands, where a portion of land, as well as a developer, will be provided for the NUJ for housing development purpose.

The Governor, while appreciating the NUJ for selecting him for its award, which will presented on Saturday, as part of activities lined up for the two-day NUJ Zone D, equally welcomed the union for choosing Nasarawa State to host its zonal meeting.

Earlier, the NUJ National President said media leaders from the North Central zone are meeting in Lafia to deliberate on issues affecting journalism and its practitioners.

Isizugo commended the Governor for his achievements in the areas of  completion of projects, security and healthcare delivering, stressing that informed the decision of the union to honour him with their award of excellence, particularly in the area of completing projects initiated by his predecessors.

The NUJ president equally appreciated the Governor for appointing thoroughbred journalists to man his media sector, as well as upgrading the Government House Press Centre.

While identifying accommodation as a major challenge confronting members of the NUJ, Isiguzo appealed to Engineer Sule to allocate a portion of land for the union to build houses for journalists working in the state.

The NUJ President was accompanied on the visit by both national and zonal executive council members of the union including, Mr. Shuaibu Leman, the NUJ National Secretary, Chief Wilson Bako, convener of the meeting and Vice President, North-Central, as well as chairmen and secretaries across the 7 councils in Zone D.
