We Are The Cheapest ICT Organizations In Nigeria – Galaxy Backbone

Galaxy Backbone, established by the Federal Government of Nigeria to operate a nationwide IP-based network that provides a common platform for connectivity and other infrastructure services for all Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) is the cheapest ICT organizations in Nigeria.

This was disclosed by the Galaxy Backbone Business Development Group Head, Abdul-Malik Suleiman at the end of a 2-Day Breakfast Meeting for ICT Directors with the theme "Exploring GBB's Fibre & Other Services Opportunities."

On customers’ complaint about cost of their services, Suleiman said: ‘‘when customers complain that our services are expensive, they must compare Apple for Apple and not Apple for mango. I dare say, we are among the most competitive ICT organizations in Nigeria in terms of reliability and durability, we  also have back-up data centres in the case of emergency and disaster.’’

He said with the Galaxy Backbone National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone (NICTIB) a cross-country optical fibre backbone, the company as covered between 85 to 90 percent of the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of government within and outside the Federal Capital territory, Abuja with fibre optics.

It will be recalled that the National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone in its first phase, which has been completed, commissioned and covers a distance of 1484 km, the backbone spans 13 states across the South East, South South, North Central and South West of Nigeria with base stations installed in 17 cities.

In his own remark, the acting Group Head of Galaxy Backbone Digital Services & Innovation; a new department under Galaxy Backbone, Nasir Suleiman said that MDAs compliance to digitalizing their office is below 20% as he hope to work with National Information Technology Development Agency, NITDA to ensure 100% compliance with Digitalising all the MDAs as agitated by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Ali Pantami.

Others speaker at the breakfast are; Galaxy Backbone’s Customer Support Services Head, Rosemary Ehieze; Galaxy Backbone National Information and Communication Technology Infrastructure Backbone Project Manager, Gerald Amadi and Data Centre Manager, Timi Fadeyi.
