Speaker Lauds Move To Reposition Delta PDP

Following Delta Central Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders resolve to reposition the party ahead of 2019, the Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Monday Igbuya has praised the Tom Amioku led Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leadership over the decision.

Igbuya told the leaders in Asaba on Monday to focus on dues, subscriptions and other avenues to fund the activities of the party.

“We need all officials, all appointees of government from Delta Central senatorial district to support the party. If you are patronized by the party in power, it is statutory you give a certain percentage of your stipend to the party. As chairman of Sapele Local Government, deductions were made from my salary and to the least appointee of the council. But these days, we see situations where people feel it is their own effort; it is their own connections that put them there and to hell with the party. You need to invite those that you labored for.  You need to invite PDP members from Delta Central in the House of Assembly to your meeting. Many people who are in diaspora just come and get appointment. They don’t know their responsibilities to the party” he said.

He assured the leaders that he would always respect the party.
“The PDP produced me. You labored day and night to secure victory for our great party and I must respect the party. We have so many appointees in government and there is no way that the party cannot pay salaries. If those you have put in place are responsive enough to give back, the burden of the party will be immensely reduced. In the face of that bad council, the first thing they collect is their security vault. If the party is not there today, you will not be where you are. So we must encourage that that money be paid.

It is when the party is sustained that you are able to collect your two million. So I encourage Mr. Chairman to take this up seriously at the state executive meeting so that the party officials on ground can be encouraged. And remember the only thing we have today now is the state; Imagine people ordinarily who are working to be ministers, who are struggling to have federal appointments are now Special Advisers.

Some of them may struggle one day to become councilors. Count on us in this assembly. If you call members of this house to contribute, they will comply. I am a party man to the core and I believe in my party”

Stating that the PDP government is more concerned with the welfare of the people and the economic development of the state, Igbuya said that the drop in oil price is hitting hard on the state government

“The task before the state is heavy, demanding and challenging, he said, promising that the current administration is utilizing available resources judiciously.

Igbuya while urging the people to support Governor Okowa to enable the PDP administration succeed, described the governor as a turnaround expert.

“We have a very responsible governor; a governor who is energetic, full of wisdom and guided by God” he said.

The leaders who paid a courtesy call on Mister Speaker at the Delta State House of Assembly commended the speaker for the robust relationship between the two arms of government.

They also congratulated him for his victory at the tribunal.

“PDP is not at the centre. We are facing real challenges. We are strategically repositioning the party. We need your support” Chairman of Delta Central PDP, Chief Tom Amioku said.
