The Save One Million Lives (SOML), a Federal Ministry of Health program, which have it cardinal principle as Program for Result (PforR) had reached out to Dandume and Sabuwa Local Government Areas of Katsina State.
Katsina Media and Publicity reports that the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Mariyatu Bala Usman, Who was at the outreach event said the essence is to practically engage the rural communities in using the available locally and naturally available foods for nutrition and other health benefits in cushioning the effects of malnutrition among the rural inhabitants.
At the program, rural women were sensitized on general healthcare improvement services including, Child spacing awareness, Malaria control, Routine Immunization Promotion, Personal Hygiene, Prevention of Children Malnutrition using locally available foods amongst others.
The SOML Program for Results have six important feelers that if taken care of could save more than the targeted lives savings. These are: 1. Improving maternal, new born and child health 2. Improving routine immunisation coverage and achieving polio eradication 3. Elimination of Mother-To-Child to child transmission of HIV; 4. Scaling up actions to essential medicines and commodities. 5. Malaria control and 6. Improving child nutrition.
It will be recalled that Katsina Media and Publicity had last month aired the broadcast by His Excellency, the Katsina State Governor, calling on people to take their children for routine immunisation so as to reduce, if not eradicate the threat posed by child killer diseases.
