Ahead Of 2019 Elections: Over 166,215 PVCs Not Collected In Katsina State - INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had today disclosed that over 166,215 Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs) belonging to residents of the 34 Local Government Areas of Katsina State are still yet to be collected from their offices.

Katsina Media and Publicity reports that this is coming at a time the commission said it was committed to conducting free, fair and credible general election in the state come 2019.

The State Resident Electoral Commissioner, (REC) Jibril Ibrahim Zarewa stated this during a stakeholders’ meeting with political parties, civil society organisations, the media and other relevant agencies in Katsina.

Zarewa said: “As of 2011 to 2015, we registered 2,842,678 persons but only 2,787,087 collected their PVCs. In 2017, 111,317 persons were registered while 6,1955 collected. In the first quarter of 2018, we have about 61,262 PVCs. From this period under review, we have a grand total of 3,015,257 PVCs. 2,848,650 persons collected their own, while 166,215 PVCs are yet to be collected as of Tuesday, September 18th, 2018".

“It should be noted that the figure do not include those of the second quarter of 2018 whose PVCs are being processed and will be collected by registrants before the 2019 general election as collection of PVCs will continue up to a week to the elections".

@katgovmedia reports that Zarewa reiterated that all necessary measures had been put in place by the commission to enable registered voters in the state collect their PVCs without any hitch.

The commissioner explained that the suspension of the continuous voters registration (CVR) on August 31st had not affected the collection of PVCs, hence the need for registered voters to come out and collect their PVCs.

Recall that Katsina Media and Publicity had during sallah celebrations reported the State Governor's calling on the state households to come out en mass and collect their PVCs as well as come out to vote the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the continuity of the transition from bad to good that is ongoing.
