Innovation-Driven Enterprise Is The Game-Changer In Terms Of Job And Wealth Creation – DG NITDA

Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) and Innovation-Driven Enterprise (IDE) entrepreneurs are the game-changer in terms of job and wealth creation for Nigerians.

This was disclosed by the Director-General National Information Technology Development Agency Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi during stakeholder review Workshop for the Validation of the National Digital Entrepreneurship and Innovation Policy in Abuja.

The DG said that Boston Consulting Group projected that by 2025, unicorn IDEs have the potential to create more than 3 million jobs in Africa and beyond.

“The policy is designed to help us create an enabling environment to start and grow IDEs in Nigeria. By implementing the policy, we will create the IDE mindset and skillset and learn how to do business in our communities. Part of it is the mentorship to develop an ecosystem because no successful business can grow in isolation. The Silicon Valley is a typical example of that, Kashifu said.

He further reiterated that out of the 615 unicorn companies in the world, only three are in Africa, two in South Africa, and one in Nigeria.

“America has 265, China 204, UK 24, and India 21. The question is: why are they clustered in certain locations? What is so special about those locations?  Well, it is clear that the right government policies and digital transformation strategy helps to deliver customer value through digital technology and empowers the innovation ecosystem.

In his opening remarks, the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr Isa Pantami noted that his administration remains committed to creating an enabling environment for indigenous innovations to thrive.

"As a government, it is our responsibility to provide the right policy and enabling environment for digital innovation and entrepreneurship" he noted.
